Experience Marketing.

The SFU Student Marketing Association (SMA) is the school’s creative and innovative marketing-based student organization. Their focus is to bring together like-minded individuals who are interested in exploring the different areas of marketing and are seeking to gain experience and skills through the various opportunities SMA has to offer.

One of SMA's pillar events is Marketing In Focus. It bridges the gap between marketing professionals and students who are interested in Marketing. MIF introduces attendees to various aspects of Marketing through panels, workshops and presentations from keynote speakers. Students have the opportunity to ask questions, while networking with various industry professionals, in an intimate setting.

As the Visual Communications Coordinator for Marketing In Focus 2017, my responsibilities included creating all graphic design and branding works for the event. I worked closely with the VP of Visual Communications, Melissa Tse, to maintain consistent branding and design, and I worked closely with the Marketing Coordinator to launch promotional material and content published on SMA's social media outlets (eg. Facebook, Instagram).

Our Organizing Committee (OC), which consisted of four other SMA members, including myself, firstly discussed past theme ideas from previous MIF events - such themes included slogans such as Explore Your Horizons from MIF 2015 and More Than Meets The Eye from MIF 2016. We brainstormed ideas and all agreed on a theme that focussed on ideation, reflection and self-improvement, and evidently, inspiration. Eventually, we all came together to agree on MIF 2017's official slogan, What Inspires You? From our ideation trait, the visual image of a blueprint came to mind as it is a representation of formulating ideas and creating selected work(s) in progress.

Posters were hung up throughout the West Mall Complex at Simon Fraser University. This is also where the Beedie School of Business office is located, and where business classes are taught.

Tickets for Marketing In Focus 2017 sold out, and SMA received positive reception from SFU students and speakers. Many said they would attend the networking event next year if given a chance.
