Miscellaneous Projects

The Sign Place is a family-owned printing shop, located in East Vancouver. They specialize in both high quality digital and offset printing, all within a fast turnaround and budget-friendly prices.

Throughout much of Spring 2018, I worked at The Sign Place as a Print Production Assistant. I worked alongside the other Print Production Specialists, Sign Installers, and the owners of the shop, Henry and Bonnie Chai. My responsibilities included using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create various print collateral, such as business cards, brochures and pamphlets, and signs printed on coroplast or PVC material. I safely operated machinery, which included high-speed digital printers, wide format printing machines, and computer to plate (CTP) pre-press machines.

Coroplast display menus printed for the Granville Street location of The Famous Warehouse Restaurant in Vancouver.

CMNS 323W is an upper-level and writing-intensive course that is offered in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University. This course offers a cultural-historical examination of contemporary advertising practices as well as a critical exploration of their impact upon different aspects of the consumer society, such as children's culture, pharmaceutical marketing, globalization, political communication and new media.

For our final project, we were required to create a 30-second video ad that engages critically with consumer culture. Along with three other group members, we produced a satirical ad on the recent tensions that have been present in the political climate of the US. Instead of taking a stance and siding with either a liberal or a conservative party, we intend to take no position and play with the position of ignorance of not having an opinion. We are not trying to make fun of those who do represent a position, but rather, we want to poke fun of the people who decide to be extremely disengaged and ignorant from the political issues of today. The concepts that we have decided to pull from the course content includes youth culture, identity through consumption and healthism, the body, and the neoliberal self.

I filmed parts of my Fall 2017 and Summer 2018 semesters to be compiled and edited for a personal vlog. The purpose of this self-directed project was to practice all of the video editing and making skills that I currently possess, and hone them into a short, one minute clip to upload on my personal Instagram account.

On August and September 2015, I designed two Snapchat geofilters, the neighbourhood I live in, which is the Kensington-Cedar Cottage neighbourhood in East Vancouver, and the first post-secondary institution I attended, which was the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), that have been approved on Snapchat.

As of May 2019, they can still be used when one takes a snap or video, but due to the increasing popularity of the app and abundance of new features that have been implemented on Snapchat since I submitted both filters in 2015, they are somewhat hard to come across now.
